With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Nick Massie, a dedicated member of our board whose impact was deeply felt throughout our organization and the broader community. Nick joined our board in 2023 and quickly became an enthusiastic and committed champion for workforce development.
Beyond his service with us, Nick was a highly engaged community leader, contributing his time and energy to numerous local boards and committees, including the Greater Vancouver Chamber, Building Industry Association of Clark County, and the Southwest Washington Contractors Association, among others.
Nick was especially passionate about creating meaningful career opportunities for people of all ages. He believed deeply that construction is not a fallback option—but a strong, stable, and rewarding career path that can support families and build futures.
Nick’s leadership, warmth, and sense of purpose left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of working with him. A few of our team members shared their reflections:
“Nick was passionate about providing ALL people and young adults with access to the good careers that construction and the trades can provide. He showed up, and we truly benefited from his leadership and energy.”
— Miriam Halliday, CEO
“Nick had a remarkable ability to make others feel respected and valued, and his enthusiasm for service and dedication to our community were evident in everything he did.”
— Marnie Farness, Director of Programs
“Nick was easy to talk to, he always made time for me when I needed advice on various projects, and he had a fantastic sense of humor. As someone who loves to laugh and joke, Nick always made our work fun.”
— Darcy Hoffman, Director of Business Services
Nick’s legacy of service, kindness, and advocacy will continue to inspire us. He will be greatly missed.
